story pic

With great pleasure the UCSD Arts and Humanities Division welcomes Kimberly L. McCartney (’94) as its new Director of Development.

A UC San Diego alumna and Alumni Association board member, Kim’s impressive background consists of more than a decade of fundraising and financial advising. Her extensive experience includes working with the City of Hope Cancer Center as Director of the national organization’s San Diego office. Earlier in her career, Kim worked in a training capacity with the United States Foreign Service and subsequently was an English-language instructor in Japan.

Kim’s primary role at UC San Diego is to further involve friends and donors with the Division of Arts and Humanities, while generating awareness of the role the Division plays in not only the lives of students and the University, but also in the community.

The Division of Arts and Humanities is home to the nationally recognized Theatre and Dance Department—ranked third in the U.S., one of the top Chinese Studies programs in the world and the fastest growing undergraduate major at UCSD—the Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts Major (ICAM). With remarkable advancements in the melding of creative visual and performing arts with the exciting world of high technology, Arts & Humanities looks to even greater innovations, achievements and distinctions.

Since joining UC San Diego just a few months ago, Kim has spearheaded initiatives to fund several endowed faculty chairs and graduate fellowships across departments within the Division.

Currently, Kim is leading a two-year campaign to raise more than $13 million in private support for the Division’s groundbreaking Music Center, which will feature a world-class hall designed by the most respected acoustical engineer in the world. The Music Center will attract internationally renowned artists for community performances and interaction with students. New studio and rehearsal facilities will provide talented students with the resources to fully realize their creative abilities and inspire them to new heights. More details about the Music Center and its naming opportunities can be found at www.campaign.ucsd.edu/musiccenter.
