MEET THE NEW DEAN
OF ARTS AND HUMANITIES,
SETH LERER

Seth Lerer has arrived as Dean of Arts and Humanities

Literary scholar Seth Lerer was named Dean of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego in the summer of 2008. He arrived on campus in January 2009, after finishing a fellowship at the Huntington Library and wrapping up work at Stanford University.

Lerer recently spoke about his hopes and top priorities for the division – as well as his favorite book, food and place on Earth.

Lerer has published 10 books, including Chaucer and His Readers and Inventing English: A Portable History of the Language, and is the author of more than 100 articles. His most recent book, Children’s Literature: A Reader’s History from Aesop to Harry Potter, was widely appreciated by reviewers, including in the Washington Post, and has been announced as a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.

In August, on local public radio, Lerer discussed children’s books and his lifelong love of reading. You can listen to the program here.
