Faculty Startup Package Guidelines
Startup packages are awarded to new DAH faculty to help them with their transition to UCSD. The funds are available to them once they are officially hired.
The startup package consists of two components:
1. support/research funds
2.
a recruitment allowance
The startup package for new DAH faculty varies with rank, as follows:
Rank
|
Support/Research Funds
|
Recruitment Allowance
|
Assistant Professors |
$15,000 |
$30,000 |
Associate Professors |
$20,000 |
$40,000 |
Full Professors |
$25,000 |
$50,000 |
The support/research funds are transferred to the department, for the faculty member’s use, during the September/October time period of the year in which the appointment is made. This fund may be used in support of moving expenses, computing equipment, summer salary, travel, graduate student assistance, or any other research need as permitted by University policy.
The recruitment allowance is to assist the faculty member’s relocation to San Diego by providing support for the purchase of a residential home. The recruitment allowance is subject to the Recruitment Allowance Repayment Agreement (terms and conditions); it is subject to benefit cost; it is taxable income; and it may be paid to the faculty member after she/he has entered escrow on the purchase of a home in the San Diego area. When a faculty member requests payment of his/her recruitment allowance, he/she must bring to the department a copy of the escrow document and must sign the Recruitment Allowance Repayment agreement. The escrow document is then sent to Mary Baran in the Academic Personnel Office (APO) for review and approval. Once approval is received from APO, a copy of the approval and the signed Recruitment Allowance Repayment Agreement is sent to the Dean’s Office for signature. The Dean’s Office processes the transfer of funds and notifies the department to proceed with the recruitment allowance payment to the faculty member via the PPS system.
